The right-handed batsman from Karnataka, Mayank Agarwal is in scintillating form in the domestic season. Karnataka banked on Mayank’s bat to lift the Vijay Hazare Trophy for the third time. Further, he also became the highest run-scorer in the Ranji Trophy which included a triple-hundred.

Mayank scored three centuries and four fifties in the tournament at an astonishing average of 76.46 following his 1003 runs in the Ranji Trophy. Further, he became the highest run-scorer in a single Indian domestic season.

Meanwhile, Mayank attacking style of play has seen people draw comparisons with Virender Sehwag. Sehwag was one of the prolific run-scorers in Indian cricket continuing his attacking style of format across formats. Now, after he showcased his ability to settle down, the comparisons have become even stronger.

Mayank dismissed any comparisons:

However, the opener has dismissed all the comparisons and admitted there is still a long way to for him. Previously, Mayank had admitted Sehwag as his batting idol. Now, with Sehwag in his side, Mayank wants to acquire his brains.

I am not a man of comparison and I would not want to be compared with him because he is a legend,” Mayank said to kxip.in. “For me, watching him bat and dominate the game was something that I loved. Being in KXIP, I want to keep picking his brain. I have heard a lot of stories about how mentally strong he is and how he enjoys the game. I have had a few conversations with him and those have really helped me in my game,” he added.

While Mayank wants to learn many aspects of Sehwag’s game, his ability to hit the ball to the boundary tops the list.

“I just wish I could bat like him. I think the way he tackles spinners is something I would really like to learn from him,” Agarwal concluded.

Meanwhile, Mayank will feature for Kings XI Punjab in the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League.
