Mayank Agarwal has done well in the IPL 2020 right from the onset of the season. He has forged key partnerships with captain KL Rahul although it has went in-vain on quite a few occasions. Through his brilliance, Mayank Agarwal, who broke into the international set up as Test opener has now proved that he is more than just that.

Agarwal waited anxiously for his chance in Test cricket and delivered from the word go when given an opportunity. But he had to wait long before getting his break in the longest format and there were time during this phase when he succumbed to negative thoughts. During this phase Mayank Agarwal hit a triple century for Karnataka in 2017 Ranji trophy, making him the third player from the state behind KL Rahul and Karun Nair to achieve the feat.

Mayank Agarwal has shown he is more than just a Test player: Jonty Rhodes

“It is incredible and is an indication of the strength of Indian cricket, which is detrimental also sometimes for some young cricketers. Think of Rohit Sharma, how long he took to break into the Indian team. Guys like Mayank have shown he is more than just a Test player,” Jonty Rhodes told ANI.

“But KL has just been so consistent. He is multi-dimensional, and that is important because as a cricketer you need to adapt to every scenario. The players who are able to adapt are the ones who are successful,” said the former Mumbai Indians fielding coach,” he added.

Agarwal went on to make his debut in the Test series Down Under in 2018-19 and was quick to cement his spot as an opener. In 11 Tests, he has scored 974 runs at a brilliant average of 57.29, laced with three centuries and four half-centuries.

He will be the key in all three formats in the upcoming series Down Under.
