However, his excellent form in Test cricket is not enough to find him a spot in the limited-overs and Mayank will have to wait to don the blue jersey.

The Karnataka-born cricketer stormed to the 11th place in the latest released ICC Test Rankings for batsmen. This is Mayank Agarwal’s second double hundred within a span of three games and has already amassed 858 runs at an average of 71.5.

But the excellent form will not be enough for Mayank to break into the T20I and ODI side. He flew to England during the ICC World Cup 2019 as a replacement for Vijay Shankar but didn’t get any game and following that he has not been considered apart from Tests.

As per reports in T0I, the management is still happy with Shikhar Dhawan and is likely to continue with him for the upcoming series against West Indies. India will play three T20Is against the Caribbean team, with the first game scheduled on December 6.

“Where is the space in the opening department in the limited-overs team? Rohit (Sharma) and Shikhar (Dhawan) are your established openers. There’s no slot at the top for even someone like KL Rahul now. Virat (Kohli) will come back into the team as well,” the report said.

The source also added that Mayank Agarwal needs to score runs consistently in the Indian Premier League to be in the good books of the selectors. Recently, Kings XI Punjab retained the in-form batsman ahead of IPL 2020 auctions which will take place in Kolkata on December 19.

He also made it clear that Mayank Agarwal can only come to the squad if any one of Shikhar Dhawan or Rohit Sharma decides to take a break. Meanwhile, Agarwal enjoys a brilliant record in List A cricket, where he has slammed 13 hundreds and enjoys an average of 50.90 and a strike rate of 101.57.

“Players can go through ups and downs. Mayank can only come in only if Rohit or Shikhar want to take rest, but he won’t be rushed into the T20 side. Let him score runs in the IPL. Firstly, he has to be played consistently by his franchise,” he concluded.
