Garth Stirrat, who was the fourth umpire during the third T20I between England and New Zealand, is not an ordinary man or one can say that he did not have an ordinary past. He was once a porn star before entering the sports field. He, however, kept it a secret and paid the price for the same.

Garth Stirrat was sacked from a top job in golf when his secret life was discovered. But it did not hamper his spirit as he moved to cricket and doing well now.  Now the 51-year-old has built a successful career as an umpire. He was on duty in England’s 14-run defeat to the Black Caps in Nelson on Tuesday.

Previously, Garth Stirrat has stood as a main umpire in women’s international matches. He was fired as chief executive of the New Zealand Professional Golfers’ Association ten years ago, according to The Sun. Garth Stirrat previously played cricket in his homeland before later venturing into umpiring.

“Was proud as punch to be involved in the T20i in Nelson as 4th umpire. Wasn’t a bad way to spend the birthday too,” said Stirrat after the third T20I.

New Zealand, meanwhile, beat England by 14 runs in the third T20I to take a 2-1 lead in the two-match series. Chasing 181, England were 139 for 2 with 31 balls remaining and looked set to win the match comfortably. However, an inexplicable batting collapse saw them lose 5 wickets for just 10 runs in space of 18 balls. They eventually ended up on 166 for 7.

Earlier in the game, Colin de Grandhomme’s blistering 55-run knock helped England put up a big total of 180 for 7. The penultimate game of the series will take place in Napier on Friday.
