The Stars are hopefuls of signing Warner for five matches including the finals. Warner is currently playing in the ongoing World Cup where he has already scored one century and two fifties in five games. “We want him. It’s just a matter of whether he is available. We are holding a spot open for him,” Stars director of cricket Trent Woodhill told The Age.

“We definitely would like to get him with us. You want the best players playing at the MCG and there is no bigger name worldwide, including Virat Kohli, than David Warner,” added Woodhill.

Woodhill also told the news outlet that the Stars are ready to bend to David Warner’s demands in terms of contract length in an attempt to secure his services. The reports suggest that Stars had also approached Steve Smith but Warner remains their top priority after his outstanding outing in the IPL.

Stars, who were runners-up in the last season of the Big Bash League, were also linked with superstar AB de Villiers. However, the former South Africa skipper had withdrawn his interest in signing a short-term contract with any BBL franchise.  Stars are still searching for their first title and David Warner could just help them achieve that.
