Arjun Tendulkar, the son of Indian cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar, found himself in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons during a recent IPL 2023 match between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The young left-arm seamer had a forgettable moment, as he bowled the joint-most expensive over of the season, conceding 31 runs in the 16th over to Sam Curran and Harpreet Bhatia.

Arjun Tendulkar had started well, picking up the first wicket for MI with a searing yorker, after the team won the toss and opted to bowl first. However, things went downhill quickly as he struggled to contain Sam Curran and Harpreet Bhatia, who hit him for two fours and two sixes, including one off a no-ball.

He offered a couple of length balls to Curran, who pumped them down the ground for a six and a four on either side of a wide delivery. While a single followed, Bhatia took on the young left-armer and smashed two fours and a six besides another four off a no-ball.
This performance by Arjun Tendulkar equaled the record set by Yash Dayal of Gujarat Titans, who had conceded five sixes off successive balls to Rinku Singh of Kolkata Knight Riders earlier in the season. Arjun’s 31-run over is also the second-worst ever by a Mumbai Indians bowler, behind Daniel Sams, who had conceded 35 runs in an over against KKR last season.
Arjun Tendulkar’s expensive over was a stark reminder of the challenges that young players face in high-pressure situations. Despite having cricketing greatness in his genes, Arjun is still finding his feet in the professional game and has a lot to learn. While he has been playing domestic cricket for a while, this was his first season in the IPL, and he has had limited opportunities to showcase his skills.
