Former English Captain Michael Vaughan has advised countryman Tom Banton to skip the Indian Premier League as of now. Banton is currently one of the best talent in T20 Cricket globally. His explosive batting has made him an instant favorite and one of the most feared batsmen in recent times. But, contrary to his playing style, Vaughan has advised the youngster to eye a spot in the Test team.

Tom Banton was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. He was bought at his base price of Rs 1 crore in the recently held auction in Kolkata. Vaughan has asked the England board to keep Banton away from IPL. Vaughan believes Banton has the potential to become a good Test cricketer.

Vaughan believes that Banton should play for Somerset as of now and leave IPL. He is of the opinion that the English Test Team has a vacant No.6 spot and Banton could be the perfect guy to fill in the spot. “If I were in charge I would be on the phone this week to Tom Banton telling him to give up his IPL deal and play the first few weeks of the county season for Somerset because there is a slot available at No 6 in the Test side,” Vaughan wrote in a column for Telegraph Sport.

Vaughan believes that Tom Banton is a future star. Vaughan has said that Banton has the potential to become a great Test cricketer. “I have seen enough of Banton to know he is a superstar in the making. I’m not sure a stint in the IPL right now, when he might not get a lot of game time, is what he needs at this stage of his career,” Vaughan said.

Vaughan is convinced that Banton needs to give time to Test Cricket. He is of the opinion that IPL can wait. But, a current vacancy in the English Test side can be a great opportunity for him. “The IPL can wait. He has plenty of time to go to India. He needs to play four-day cricket and score some early hundreds,” Vaughan further wrote.
