Showing a poor piece of sportsmanship, former England skipper Michael Vaughan has taken a sly dig at Team India after their loss in the World Cup semifinal against New Zealand. India, on Wednesday, suffered a shocking 18-run loss at the hands of New Zealand to bow out of the competition at the semifinal stage for the second time in a row.

India were the firm favourites to win the clash after finishing the group stage at the top spot with just one loss from 9 games. Their chances of winning the game only increased after they restricted New Zealand to a modest 239 for 8. But what followed thereafter left the entire country shell shocked. New Zealand’s pacers – Matt Henry and Trent Boult – ran through India’s top-order.

Matt Henry sent back Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul while Boult accounted for Virat Kohli to leave India reeling at 5 for 3. Dinesh Karthik also failed while Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya could not capitalise on the starts as India found themselves 6 down for just 92.

Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni then produced a 116-run partnership to drag India back in contention. Jadeja in particular was brilliant. However, with 37 runs needed from the final 18 balls, Jadeja departed for 77. Dhoni struck a six off the first ball of the 49th over but was then superbly run out by Martin Guptill to realistically end India’s slim chances. India were eventually all out for 221.

And as if the defeat was not enough, Michael Vaughan rubbed more salt to Virat Kohli’s wounds with a distasteful post. Michael Vaughan posted a morphed image of Kohli which was earlier posted by the ICC at the start of the World Cup. Michael Vaughan posted the picture of Kohli holding a plane ticket on his Instagram account while writing:

“Tickets please @icc ?”
