Former England captain Michael Vaughan has perhaps become the public enemy number one in Bangladesh. The outspoken ex-cricketer invited the wrath of the Bangladeshi fans with his comments for Shakib Al Hasan. As soon as the ICC banned the star allrounder, Michael Vaughan lashed out at Shakib Al Hasan and said that the ban should’ve been longer.

Shakib has received a two-year ban with one year suspended. He has been punished for failing to report multiple requests for inside information from an alleged bookmaker, Deepak Aggarwal. He pleaded guilty to three charges under the ICC’s anti-corruption code relating to matches in the 2018 Indian Premier League and a tri-series involving Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.

Shakib’s absence will be a huge blow for Bangladesh. The southpaw, who was the captain of the T20 and Test teams before the ban, is one of the biggest names on the white-ball scene. He was the third highest scorer at the last Cricket World Cup. No surprises then that Bangladesh would miss their talismanic allrounder.

And while Bangladesh fans were expressing their disappointment over the turn of events, Michael Vaughan took to Twitter to hit out at Shakib. The former cricketer stated that he has no sympathy for Shakib and also said that the ICC should have banned the cricketer for a longer period. Unsurprisingly, he faced the wrath of the Bangladesh fans with many even abusing him.

But Michael Vaughan has also maintained his stance and has given it back to the Bangladeshi fans on a number of occasion. One such fan decided to take a dig at the England legend by comparing his and Shakib’s stats. Posting a doctored image of Shakib and Michael Vaughan, the user wrote:

“Come to the same level first ??”

Michael Vaughan noticed the tweet and gave a fitting reply to the Bangladeshi fan, making it clear that although his stats are not good, he would never indulge in corruption.

“I was average .. I accept that .. but at least I wasn’t corrupt .. #Cheers #OnOn,” wrote Michael Vaughan.
