Former England captain Michael Vaughan just loves to mess with Indian fans on Twitter. Every now and then, he comes up with a comment that riles up the Indian fans and the latter rarely leave an opportunity to slam the Ashes-winning captain. Well, Michael Vaughan was up to his old tricks once again on Wednesday.

The former cricket could not help but take a cheeky dig at the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad. On Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted a beautiful photo of the stadium which is set to be the largest cricket stadium in the world.

The Motera or the Sardar Patel Stadium has not hosted an international game since 2014. The ODI between India and Sri Lanka on November 6, 2014 was the last international game at the Ahmedabad-based stadium. The old structure of the stadium was pulled down in 2015.  Built at a cost of Rs 700 crore, the new structure has a seating capacity of 1,10,000 spectators instead of the old seating capacity of 53,000.

The new stadium will house two large seating tiers, each with approximately 50,000 general admission seat capacity.Unsurprisingly, the pictures of the venue has already created a lot of buzz among fans and players alike. However, Michael Vaughan decided to have some fun as he cheekily compared it to Headingley in Leeds, which has a capacity of 17,000.

“Almost as good as Headingley !!!!,” wrote Michael Vaughan.

The stadium was first built in 1982 when the state government of Gujarat donated 50 acres of land for its construction. The ground began hosting international cricket a year later in 1983. So far, Motera has held one T20I (Pakistan’s final international on Indian soil, played back in 2012), 12 Test matches and 24 ODIs.

Later this month, the US President Donald Trump will inaugurate the stadium. England are also set to play a day-night Test at the same venue next year when they visit India for a five-Test series.
