Mohammad Kaif, former Indian middle-order batsman and the current assistant coach of the Delhi Capitals, recently opened up about his franchise in the upcoming edition of the IPL.
Delhi Capitals underwent a 360 degree turn when it comes to their performance in the cash-rich league last season. The Shreyas Iyer-led outfit made its way to the playoffs for the very first time since the 2011 IPL, eventually finishing at the third spot.

Capitals racked up the services of swashbuckling batsmen like Jason Roy, Alex Carey, and Shimron Hetmyer in the auctions and at the same also bolstered the squad with experienced players like Ravichandran Ashwin and Ajinkya Rahane and Kaif feels that the squad is quite balanced ahead of the 13th edition.
“The arrival of Ajinkya Rahane and Ravi Ashwin, both former captains of their IPL franchises, will increase the experience quotient in a big way. The presence of Jason Roy, who played a big role in England’s 2019 ICC World Cup win, Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey and Shimron Hetmyer, the hard-hitting West Indian batsman gives us good balance,’’ Mohammad Kaif told Gulf News.

“I think it’s been a good call by the Indian cricket board,’’ Mohammad Kaif on the IPL finally taking place

The 13th edition of the IPL was originally scheduled to take place between March 29-May 24 but the tournament was postponed twice for an indefinite period of time due to the outbreak of Covid-19 and the subsequent lockdown imposed all over the world. With the T20 World Cup getting postponed, it paved the way for a clear window for the tournament, which the BCCI cashed-on big time and Mohammad Kaif went on to laud the Indian board for their swift action.
‘‘I think it’s a great news for the cricket fans that the IPL 2020 will be eventually held. It’s a big project and the livelihood of a lot of people revolves around it. If you look around, the England versus West Indies Test series has got over without a hitch while all the major football leagues are being completed – I think it’s been a good call by the Indian cricket board,’’ said Kaif
The cash-rich is all set to kick-off in the UAE from September 19 and the IPL Governing Council is set to meet on Sunday [August 02] to finalize all the details of the marquee league.
