Veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi has blamed Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) for changing the leadership ahead of the World Cup behind their poor run in the competition. The Afghans failed to secure one win from the nine games they played in the tournament.

ACB deployed Gulbadin Naib as the skipper of the side days before the World Cup. Many cricketers expressed their concern over the sacking of veteran batsman Asghar Afghan as the captain. Notably, Afghan did an outstanding job with the team as they came up the ranks in quick time.

Afghanistan came close to winning in games against India, West Indies, and Pakistan but failed to close in on the final moments. Mohammad Nabi accused that Naib has never captained in his life which played a role in their dismal run in the World Cup.

“Before the World Cup we changed the old captain and that was the main thing why we couldn’t play well as a team. That captain never captained in his life. That’s why we didn’t do that well in the World Cup, and even though we had good games against India, Pakistan and West Indies, we lost those matches,” Nabi said to Cricbuzz.

ACB has changed the leadership and has appointed young Rashid Khan as the captain across the format. Rashid led his country to the historic Test win against Bangladesh, his first game s the skipper. Mohammad Nabi backed Rashid to be one for the future. He also said that it is the perfect move keeping an eye on the future.

“Here with Rashid Khan as captain, he has the ability to lead the team. Besides that, me and Asghar (Afghan) support him a lot,” Nabi said. “But now it’s totally changed. We have given chances to our young players. There are many young players for T20s and in this Test we debuted three young players. This is the main thing we are focusing on and we have put up a young captain. He is the number one bowler in the world as well,” he concluded.
