Indian Cricket team seamer, Mohammed Shami on Monday (June 11) failed to clear the fitness test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore ahead of the One-off Test against Afghanistan.

Pertinently, Board of Control for Cricket India (BCC) has confirmed the news.

As a result, BCCI named Navdeep Saini, the seamer from Delhi as his replacement. Saini had an amazing stint in the 2017-18 Ranji season. He bagged 34 wickets in eight games during the premium first-class season.

India will play against debutant Afghanistan in Bengaluru starting from June 14.

Meanwhile, it will be a huge blow for Shami, who is going through a rough patch at the moment.

Well, marred by controversies off the field, Shami had a tough time in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL).

Later, Delhi Daredevils (DD) left him out of the playing XI due to poor performance with the ball.

Shami’s most recent competitive game came during the season eleven of IPL for Daredevils against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 16.

Shami was later named as a replacement for allrounder Hardik Pandya in the World XI squad for the charity Tweny20 International match against Windies at Lord’s on May 31. But he did not turn up for the match.

However, Mohammed Shami was eyeing a return to form in the One-off Test match against Afghanistan. He will now have to work hard on his fitness to be available for the upcoming tour to the United Kingdom (UK).

The selectors have also named young wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan as Sanju Samson’s replacement in India A squad for the One-Day series in England.

The Kerala-based batsman Samson also failed to clear the fitness test followed mixed outing in IPL for Rajasthan Royals.
