While Mohammed Siraj became the talk of the town thanks to his sensational spell against Kolkata Knight Riders earlier this week, very few know that the Royal Challengers Bangalore pacer was fighting an emotional battle.

Mohammed Siraj’s father had to be admitted in hospital just hours before the clash between RCB and KKR. But the Hyderabad-pacer put up a brave face and took the field before starring in RCB’s thumping eight-wicket win over KKR. He was the Man of the Match for his sensational spell of 3 for 8 off just four overs.

He also entered the record books for becoming the first-ever player to bowl two maiden overs in a game in the IPL. In his first two overs, he did not concede any runs while dismissing Rahul Tripathi, Nitish Rana and Tom Banton. In his last two overs, he gave away just eight runs.

RCB managed to restrict KKR to a paltry 84 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, the Bangalore-based outfit chased down the total inside 14 overs by losing just two wickets.

‘My dad is unwell’:

After the game, Mohammed Siraj revealed that his father is not well and is having a trouble with his breathing. The right-arm pacer revealed how he is finding it tough to talk to his father on phone before stating that he had to be admitted to the hospital before the KKR game.

“My dad is unwell these days. His lungs are in bad shape so he has difficulty breathing. I am really worried about that. I can’t even go home to meet and motivate him. I talk on the phone but whenever I do, he starts crying. I can’t even talk for longer hours because I don’t like seeing him crying.

“So I disconnect the phone early because I can’t hold myself for long. So, I pray to God for his good health. He was admitted to the hospital before the last game. I was really concerned that dad was in the hospital,” Mohammed Siraj said in a video posted by RCB.

He further said that his father is thoroughly enjoying his success on the cricket field, revealing that Siraj senior is delighted with his son’s photo in every newspaper.

“However, when I called home after the match, the biggest surprise for me was that dad was home. That made me really happy, even the match had gone my way. He told me that he was really pleased that everyone was calling him to tell him about my performance….every newspaper in Hyderabad has your photo. I said it’s all because of the blessings of God, this all has happened. You don’t worry, stay home and eat, whatever you want to eat,” the pacer concluded.
