Veteran England spinner Monty Panesar rolled back the time to recall his magical delivery to dismiss Sachin Tendulkar in 2012 Mumbai Test. The delivery went on to be compared with the ball of century from Shane Warne to dismiss England captain Mike Gatting and Monty Panesar rates his delivery ahead of the Australian.

England were trailing 0-1 in the Test series as they headed to Mumbai for the second match. Panesar had already sent back Virender Sehwag after India opted to bat. But his ball was not spinning match. However, the delivery to dismiss Sachin Tendulkar, was flighted one which landed outside leg as the master blaster completely misjudged the length and the ball went on to hit the stumps.

“When I bowled that ball to [Sachin] Tendulkar, I could remember the training I did,” Panesar told ESPNCricinfo. “When I bowled [in the Tests] I was like, gosh, I feel so fit, I feel strong, my action feels great, I felt like I could really flight the ball and spin it. I remember saying to myself, right, I want to hit the top of off stump. That was it.”

“Sometimes it’s the visualisation, isn’t it?” Panesar says. “I remember when I listened to Glenn McGrath’s videos, he said it’s the feel. Sometimes I looked at the spot [on the pitch], sometimes it’s the feel. I didn’t think I was going to get the batsman out like that. I just thought, let me get this ball to hit the top of off stump. Sachin paaji tried to play it towards mid-on, and it kind of pitched and hit off stump.”

Panesar went on to pick up five wickets in the innings, which included Sehwag, Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, R Ashwin. He went on to dismiss Tendulkar in the second innings as well as picked up 11 wickets on the rank turner.
