MS Dhoni won plenty of hearts during his playing career for his achievements and behaviour on the field. Australia’s most successful captain Ricky Ponting is also in awe of MS Dhoni for the way he carried himself on the field. Ponting said that Dhoni never seemed to let his emotions get the better off him.

Ponting on the contrary wore his heart on the sleeve and was an in your face sort of captain. He said that Dhoni had complete control over himself which is good but admitted he could personally never do so.

“He [MS Dhoni] never seems to let his emotions get the better of him, which is a really good trait in a leader — as hard as I tried when I was on the field, I could never quite stay in complete control of my emotions.” Ricky Ponting said while speaking to news.com.au.

“Indian teams always seemed to lift when he was captain. He always seemed to have this knack to be able to get the best out of his players. You knew that he had things under control, and his teammates loved that about him.”

Dhoni announced his retirement on Independence Day and since then tributary messages have not stopped pouring in.

Dhoni made a big name for himself by making the country proud with his achievements after coming from the cricketing backwaters of Ranchi. He has achieved immense success as a player and also grew up to be one of the most successful captains and achieved almost everything the ICC tournaments had to offer.

Dhoni understood the game well. He knew the strength of the side and backs his players accordingly. He did not takes any kind of frivolous decisions and likes to maintain his calm. It is due to these qualities Dhoni came up as one of the most calm and composed character on the cricket field.
