MS Dhoni, on Saturday, starred with the bat, scoring an unbeaten fifty and sharing an unbeaten century-plus stand with Kedar Jadhav to take India home in the first ODI against Australia.

Chasing a modest 237,  India were in a spot of bother after losing four wickets inside 100 runs on the tough Hyderabad pitch. India were off to a poor start as Nathan Coulter-Nile dismissed Shikhar Dhawan for a first-ball duck. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli then steadied the ship, taking the score past the fifty run-mark. However, just when it looked the duo is well set and would bat India to a position of strength, Australia struck back by dismissing both of them in quick succession.

Adam Zampa broke the 76-run stand between Rohit and Kohli by sending back the latter for 44.  Coulter-Nile then accounted for Rohit to reduce India to 95 for 3 before Zampa struck again to remove Ambati Rayudu and leave India reeling at 99 for 4.

Kedar Jadhav and MS Dhoni then joined hands to bail India out of trouble. As expected, the duo started cautiously due to the precarious situation the team was in. However, as the game progressed, they settled down and started playing their shots. They went on to add 141 runs for the fifth wicket as India won the game with ten balls remaining.  Dhoni remained on 59 while Jadhav scored an unbeaten 81. Both the players struck a six each during their knocks.

MS Dhoni, nonetheless, managed to achieve a personal milestone after he hit his first and only six of the game.  The former India skipper left Rohit Sharma to become the Indian with most sixes in ODI cricket. Before the start of the game, Dhoni was level with Rohit on 215 sixes. Overall, Dhoni has hit 223 ODI sixes but seven of them have come for Asia XI. Shahid Afridi leads the all-time list with 351 sixes. Dhoni is the fourth in the all-time list.

Here is a list showing most sixes for India in ODI cricket:
