MS Dhoni Recalls What He Told Himself On The Eve Of His ODI Debut

The former Indian National Cricket Team skipper MS Dhoni has been a phenomenon in Indian cricket. He has almost achieved everything possible and will go down as one of the greatest leaders in the history of the game. As he completes his 15 years of international cricket today, the illustrious cricketer recalled what he told himself on the eve of his ODI debut.
The national selection committee led by Kiran More handed MS Dhoni his maiden call-up for the tour against Bangladesh in 2014. While it wasn’t a memorable start as the wicket-keeper batsman got out for a duck, but it wasn’t long before he established himself as a regular in the ODI and Test formats. The selectors soon appointed him as the skipper for the inaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa and the young team didn’t disappoint, which also marked the beginning of Dhoni’s glorious journey.

MS Dhoni recalls his ODI debut
Representing the country is a massive thing for a player, and MS Dhoni was no different. The debut game comes with a lot of pressure, but the cricketer recalled how he had a sound sleep on the day before his ODI debut. Recalling those days, Dhoni admitted that he told himself to be calm and express himself on the pitch.
“I slept very well, I still remember that day. I was not under a lot of pressure, just wanted to be myself. What I told myself was that I have done really well in all the matches that I have played so far for my state team and India A team that I represented. I have to be myself whatever the situation may be. I have to go in and be expressive on the field,” Dhoni said in a video shared by Chennai Super Kings.

The Indian team grew from strength to strength under MS Dhoni. India won the tri-series in Australia in 2008, registered its first Test series win in New Zealand in 41 years, drew a Test series in South Africa in 2010. It was capped off by the historic World Cup victory in 2011 and then the Champions Trophy in 2013. Dhoni has represented India in 90 Tests, 350 ODIs and 98 T20Is with 17,266 runs, 829 dismissals
