Ever since India exited the World Cup with a defeat in the semifinal against New Zealand, MS Dhoni has hogged all the limelight. The reason for the same is the speculations over MS Dhoni‘s retirement. Speculations are rife that the former India skipper would bow of the game any time now. Dhoni is looking like a pale shadow of his former self in recent times.

For quite some time now, a number of quarters have said that MS Dhoni should bow out of the game now. The three fifties in Australia earlier this year gave Dhoni a breathing space. However, his performance in the World Cup has once again invited criticism for him. As usual, the veteran is not short on runs but his poor strike-rate is not helping his cause.

In the World Cup, he struggled against the likes of Afghanistan and England. Those two knocks had made many question the intent of MS Dhoni. In the semifinal against New Zealand, he did score a fighting 50 but once again used up too many balls for the same. There are now talks that MS Dhoni’s retirement is just a matter of time.

Reports then claimed that he is no more an automatic choice in the Indian team and the selectors are waiting for his decision. With the selectors set to announce the squad for West Indies tour this week, a call on MS Dhoni’s future is expected soon.

The Times of India has now reported that the final word on the immediate and long-term future of Dhoni is out. The report claimed that Dhoni would not travel to the West Indies. Dhoni has made himself unavailable for the three ODIs and three T20Is in the Caribbean and will keep it that way for a certain period of time.

“MS will not go to the West Indies. Going forward, he will not travel with the team within India or overseas as the first-choice wicketkeeper. Rishabh Pant will take over and there will be a grooming window for him until he settles down.

“During this time, MS will help in the transition. For all you know, he could be part of the 15 but not part of the 11. This team needs a guiding hand on multiple fronts and wishing MS away is clearly unhealthy,” a source told the news outlet.
