There are still dark clouds over the future of MS Dhoni in international cricket. The former India captain has not played for India since the end of World Cup in July and there is still no confirmation over his return date. As soon as the tournament ended, MS Dhoni had taken a sabbatical from the game and is yet to return to action.

At first, it was speculated that he would only miss the tour of West Indies and would return to action at the start of the home season. However, the 38-year old did not return to action and missed the series against South Africa and Bangladesh. He is also not a part of the T20I and ODI teams for the upcoming series against West Indies.

Things became a bit clear when chief selector MSK Prasad said that the selectors are moving on from Dhoni and would back the youngsters. They have stuck by their words and have backed Rishabh Pant in addition to recalling another wicketkeeper-batsman in the form of Sanju Samson.

IPL future clear:

But unlike his future in international cricket, MS Dhoni is sure about his future in the Indian Premier League. While it has been confirmed that he will play IPL 2020 for Chennai Super Kings, a report in The Times of India suggests that he has also informed the franchise that he will be available to play IPL 2021 as well.

“There will be a big auction before the 2021 IPL and Dhoni has already told us that he will play the tournament. So there’s no question of his retirement from the T20 version anytime soon,” a CSK source was quoted as saying by the news outlet.

The next IPL will play an important role for Dhoni as far his chances of playing in next year’s T20 World Cup is concerned. If the veteran cricketer manages to do well next year, he can very well be in the reckoning for a spot in the Indian team for the World Cup. That Dhoni is in no mood to give up on IPL, it is very clear that he has his eyes set on the T20 World Cup.
