As MS Dhoni’s future continue to be the talk of the town, India head coach Ravi Shastri has also given his views on the same. The speculations are rife over the former India skipper’s retirement ever since the World Cup ended in July. At first, there were reports that MS Dhoni would hang up his boots at the end of India’s campaign in the tournament.

The 38-year old, however, sprung a massive surprise by taking a sabbatical from the game and then went on to extend it. There was absolutely no clarity over his future as neither him, nor the the selectors made things clear. MS Dhoni missed the tour of West Indies and then the home series against South Africa but still remained in the spotlight.

Well, things became a bit clear on Thursday when the MSK Prasad-led selection panel announced the T20I and the Test squads for the upcoming series against Bangladesh. Prasad made it clear that the selectors are moving on from Dhoni and will try out youngsters. Consequently, the retained Rishabh Pant in the team and recalled Sanju Samson as a backup.

And amidst all these, Ravi Shastri has said that MS Dhoni has earned the rights to retire from the game on his own terms. The former India allrounder, who has never shied away from backing Dhoni, once again slammed Dhoni’s critics.

“Half the guys commenting on MS Dhoni can’t even tie their shoelaces. Look at what he’s achieved for the country. Why are people in a hurry to see him off? Maybe, they don’t find enough talking points. He and everybody who knows him know he’ll be going away soon. So, let it happen when it has to. Making statements at his expense is downright disrespectful. After 15 years of playing for India, wouldn’t he know what’s the right thing to do?” Shastri told The Times of India.
