MS Dhoni's Wit Is Quicker Than His Stumpings: Robin Uthappa

India’s 2007 T20 World Cup 2007 winner Robin Uthappa lauded former captain MS Dhoni’s wit and humor and said that his wit was sharper and quicker than he scored those stumpings. MS Dhoni called time on his international career in 2020 but he still plays for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Uthappa has played under MS Dhoni for both the Indian team and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL and shared the dressing room with the mercurial cricketer who played 90 Tests, 350 ODIs, and 98 T20I matches for India from 2004-2019. He scored 4876 Test runs with 6 centuries and 33 half-centuries. He made 10773 runs in ODIs with 10 centuries and in T20Is, he made 1617 runs with 2 fifties to his name.
As a keeper, Dhoni affected 829 dismissals in international cricket and is the only wicketkeeper to make more than 100 stumpings in ODI cricket.
While Dhoni’s lightning-quick stumpings have often taken the cricket world by a storm, Uthappa said Dhoni’s wit was sharper than his stumpings.
“We all think that his stumping speed is quick but the speed of his wit is even much quicker. He makes others laugh and he is a person who makes other feel comfortable. I have seen this quality in very less people who are at that stature. Shah Rukh Khan is somebody with similar nature,” Uthappa said while engaging with his fans in ShareChat’s Audio Chatroom session – ‘CricChat Powered by Parimatch’.

Apart from his wit, Uthappa was also impressed by the simplicity and trustable nature of MS Dhoni and mentioned how people took advantage of them.
“MS Dhoni is a very trustable person which people have taken undue advantage of. Once we were discussing something and he told me, “Chor hamesha chori karke he jaayega.” We do not think of such things generally but he keeps it very very simple. I gave this example because he keeps things simple, doesn’t complicate them and he is also extremely funny as a person,” Uthappa added.
MS Dhoni remains the only captain to win all three limited-overs ICC trophies in T20 World Cup in 2007, the ODI World Cup in 2011, and the Champions Trophy in 2013.
