The Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) of Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is all set to review the performance of their Ranji Trophy team in the recently concluded tournament.
The Aditya Tare led side ended their tourney at the quarterfinal stage after being defeated by the R Vinay Kumar-led Karnataka. The quarterfinal game ended on the fourth day, courtesy Karnataka’s brilliant bowling. They made a strong start on day one itself when skipper, R Vinay Kumar took a hat-trick.
Mumbai team was ruled out of the tournament and Karnataka too couldn’t make it to the final after losing out to Vidarbha in the semi-final.
In fact, Vidarbha went onto defeat an inexperienced Delhi team as well and won their maiden Ranji Trophy title.
Vidarbha winning the tournament will be the major talk of the meeting of CIC as the team is coached by Chandrakant Pandit, former Mumbai coach who was replaced by Sameer Dighe before the start of the season.
The decision to replace Pandit came as a surprise as under him, Mumbai won the title in 2015/16 while ended the journey as runners-up up in 2016/17 but still, changes were made.
In fact, MCA also replaced Chief Selector Milind Rege with Ajit Agarkar, in a surprising move. Changes were made at all levels, but the performance of Mumbai Ranji team will be the talk of the meeting.
Skipper Aditya Tare, coach Sameer Dighe will attend the meeting headed by Pravin Amre, head of CIC. Chief Selector, Ajit Agarkar and Amol Muzumdar – a member of CIC – will also attend the meeting. Tare is expected to retain his captaincy for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Apart from that, there can also be a comeback of Abhishek Nayar, who was surprisingly dropped from the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team for their last league stage tie against Tripura.
The meeting will take place on January 4.
