Former India cricketer GR Viswanath believes dropped Test opener Murali Vijay deserves one more go in the Test team during their next overseas assignment.

Meanwhile, the selectors dropped Vijay from the last two Tests against England and subsequently from the series against Windies. The Test opener struggled to score runs during India’s recent tours and the selectors axed him in favour of young Prithvi Shaw.

However, Murali Vijay went to County cricket to get his form back and immediately scoring a couple of half-centuries and a hundred. But the selectors persuaded with Shaw, who justified the selectors’ decision with a hundred and a half-century in his first two innings of his Test career.

GR Viswanath admitted that Vijay has done well over the years and at the highest level. Viswanath also added that the Tamil Nadu born batsman deserves one more go against Australia as he has a good track record there.

He has proved himself as an opener and at the highest level. He scored runs when India played in Australia last time. Of course, he deserves one more chance,” Viswanath said to TOI.

Virat Kohli yet to prove his captaincy

Speaking about Kohli’s captaincy, GR Viswanath admitted that his best is yet to come. He also noted that Kohli is hasn’t reached the pinnacle stage yet but is confident that he will reach there quite soon.

Kohli is doing really well but he is yet to prove that he’s the best. He has to win a series abroad. He has come close a couple of times but still hasn’t done yet. As a batsman, he has proved that he can score in all conditions. In recent England tour, he showed us how good can he be. There are more expectations from Kohli the captain. He is still young as a captain. He hasn’t reached that level. But I am confident he will reach that stage one day,” GR Viswanath concluded.
