Former Mysore state captain, Dr Subarao Krishnamurthy passed away aged 79 on Thursday.
Born in Bangalore on October 26, 1938, the wicketkeeper-batsman made his first-class debut for the then Mysore state team against a visiting Ceylon XI in March 1958.

His Ranji Trophy debut came in November 1959, against Hyderabad. In all, he had played 32 first-class matches, scoring 1336 runs at an average of 27.26. Known as, Dr Kitty amongst friends, Krishnamurthy took 30 catches and pulled off 15 stumpings. He also led the stateside.

Krishnamurthy studied at Bangalore Medical College and also played for Mysore University for four consecutive years. He led the University to win the title in the all-India Championship for the Rohinton Baria Trophy in 1962.
Post-retirement, Krishnamurthy held the post of vice-president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association. He also served a term as the chairman of the state senior selection committee. The Karnataka cricket team paid tribute to the late cricketer by observing a minutes silence at the start of their quarterfinal match against Mumbai.
