MS Dhoni’s future is once again up for discussion in the cricketing circles. The former India skipper had managed to take the focus off himself after taking a two-month sabbatical from the game after the World Cup. However, a tweet from India skipper Virat Kohli once again brought Dhoni in limelight.
Kohli wanted to remind everyone of India’s famous win over Australia in the semifinal of the 2016 T20 World Cup. However, the fans misinterpreted it and thought that it was a tribute to MS Dhoni ahead of his imminent retirement.
Speculations are rife over Dhoni’s future and Kohli’s tweet further added fuel to the fire. The tweet had all the elements of making the fans think about Dhoni’s future. There was absolutely no reason to post that tweet and thus it set the social media abuzz. Within moments, Dhoni started trending all over.
But things soon became clear as it turned out that the retirement talk was only a rumour. N Srinivasan, former BCCI President and managing director of India Cements (which owns Chennai Super Kings in Indian Premier League), has now opened up on Dhoni’s future in international cricket and IPL.
Srinivasan did not speak much on the issue but confirmed that Dhoni would lead Chennai in next year’s IPL.
“I can say only one thing. Mahendra Singh Dhoni will only be the captain for the next IPL Chennai Super Kings next season,” stated the 74-year-old.
MS Dhoni, meanwhile, is yet to play for India since the end of the World Cup. In his absence, the team has been busy trying out young Rishabh Pant. The youngster, however, is yet to make much of an impression and will be desperate to do well in the upcoming series against South Africa.
