Nathan Lyon might have already achieved ‘GOAT’ status in Australian cricket folklore as the most successful off-spinner that the country has ever produced but the champion cricketer is not ready to rest on his laurels just yet

Lyon, who has taken a total of 390 wickets in 96 Test matches, is eyeing Mount.500 in the longest format of the game before he calls time on his decorated career which started way back in 2011.

The off-spinner is nearing a milestone in the upcoming four-match Test series against Australia where he is set to not only become the 10th cricketer to feature in 100 five-day games but also the third Aussie bowler after the legendary duo of Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne to claim 400 red-ball wickets.

Nathan Lyon, 33, recently engaged in a live Question-Answer session with News Corp readers, where he revealed his ambition of claiming 500 Test match wickets.

“I still feel I‘m getting better and still feel like I’ve got a lot of cricket to offer Cricket Australia. Definitely 500 and beyond is on my radar.” Nathan Lyon said.

Nathan Lyon claimed nine wickets in the three Sheffield Shield games that he played for New South Wales. These were Lyon’s first competitive outing since the New Year Test against New Zealand in Sydney and the long break seam to have increased his motivation to get back in what he does best.

“Probably it’s driven my love for the game. Without being able to play the game that you love so much and not being able to play that regularly that’s driven my passion to get out there and that hunger to perform well again,” Nathan Lyon was quoted as saying by Fox Sports.

The ‘GOAT’ further added that he missed the adrenaline rush that comes with playing Test match cricket.

“The most I’ve missed is that pressure that comes along with playing Test cricket. Missing that adrenaline,” he revealed.

Lyon will continue to train with NSW as part of his preparations for the upcoming Test series against India.
