Navdeep Saini, the tearaway Indian fast bowler, has credited India and Royal Challengers Bangalore captain, Virat Kohli, for playing a big role in shaping his career.

Saini, who will be spearheading the RCB seam-bowling department in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League, made his debut last year, where he impressed everyone with his precocious pace and temperament.

Saini was one of the few shining lights in an otherwise abysmal campaign for the Virat Kohli-led RCB. The Karnal fast bowler claimed 11 wickets in the season and his exploits soon earned him a call-up to the national side during the T20I series in the Caribbean last year.

“Virat bhaiya has played a big role in my career. I played IPL for the first time with the RCB under Virat bhaiya. He is always accommodating and listens to me all the time. He backs me in whatever I want to do on the field,” Navdeep Saini told IANS

“He [Kohli] is always ready to work on my plans and back me. He shows a lot of faith. During nets, I try to give my best as he is a star batsman and you can assess yourself when you bowl to him. It is also good that he is my India captain. So, the chemistry translates while playing for India too. He knows me well and understands me. He has a lot of faith in me,” he added.

One of the many qualities of Virat Kohli is his relentless drive and focus, regardless of whether he is batting in the middle or in the nets.

Kohli’s drive and focus tends to rub well on his teammates, something Navdeep Saini is experiencing at the moment, while bowling to his skipper in the match-situation simulated practice sessions.

“He [Kohli] always keeps match intensity at nets. He is aggressive and bats with full intensity. So, as he bats like he is batting during a match, I also feed off that energy and give that little extra to showcase my skills. So, it is like a match-situation when I bowl to him,” he said.

Speaking of his international numbers, Navdeep Saini has thus far represented India in 5 ODIs and 9 T20Is, claiming 5 and 13 wickets respectively.
