Former New Zealand keeper-batsman Luke Ronchi has occupied the position of the national team’s batting coach for the upcoming summer of cricket. Luke Ronchi has filled the spot left vacant by Peter Fulton back in July as Fulton went on to accept a coaching role with Canterbury. New Zealand will begin their home summer against the West Indies.
Luke Ronchi, who played for Australia before New Zealand, has played four Tests, 85 ODIs, and 33 T20Is. The four Tests produced 319 runs at 39.88 while the 85 ODI fixtures yielded 1397 runs. On the other hand, the retired cricketer maintained a strike rate of 140.23 in T20 internationals. Ronchi has also represented the Mumbai Indians in IPL. The veteran worked with the Kiwis during the 2019 World Cup too.
Luke Ronchi feels privileged to have a full-time role for the upcoming summer of cricket. The 39-year old looks forward to work with the batsmen and aims to improve their gameplays, preparing them to give their best at the highest level. Ronchi is also keen to spend time with head coach Gary Stead and all others to underline plans on how to tackle the touring teams, who will present different challenges.
“I am absolutely pumped. I have really enjoyed being back with the team in recent seasons and it is exciting to be given the opportunity full-time this summer. Getting the chance to continue working with our batsmen is a great honour and I am looking forward to seeing how I can help improve their games and best prepare them to perform at the highest level. It will be great to sit down with Gary and the other coaches to begin planning for what will be a busy summer with four touring teams who will bring different challenges” Ronchi said as quoted by ANI.

Seasoned and accomplished batsman Ross Taylor said that Luke Ronchi is an exceptional addition and cannot wait to work with him. Taylor reckons that the 39-year old will bring all his experience to the table as he has served as a coach around the globe.
