New Zealand Batsman Rob Nicol Calls it a Day

New Zealand opener Rob Nicol, on Saturday (June 9), brought down curtains on his cricketing career. The batsman took to his official Twitter handle to announce the news by posting a photograph showing caps of all the teams he represented.

The 35-year-old Nicol made his debut for New Zealand in 2010 during the Twenty20 International against Sri Lanka. In the following two years, he made his One-Day International and Test debuts respectively.
Moreover, Nicol went on to play two Tests, 22 ODIs, and 21 T20Is, scoring 941 runs that included two centuries in the 50-over format.
Nicol first grabbed the headlines when he became only the second New Zealander, after Martin Guptill, to score a century on ODI debut, against Zimbabwe.
The Auckland-based batsman registered his second and the only other international ton against the same opposition way back in 2012. But while he announced his retirement now, he had not represented the Black Caps since the tour of Sri Lanka five years ago.

Furthermore, Nicol was a consistent performer in the domestic circuit. In a first-class career that spanned over 17 years, Nicol played for Auckland for the first eight seasons before moving to Canterbury in 2009-10.
Although he featured in 130 first-class games in which he scored 6,319 runs. He picked 43 wickets to taste more success in the limited-overs format.
Well, the right-handed batsman amassed 4,717 runs in List A cricket, including nine tons and eventually bagged 96 wickets.
