The India National Cricket Team added another win to their name, courtesy a 90-run victory over New Zealand at the Bay Oval. Meanwhile, the second ODI of the five-match series saw the visitors walking over the Kiwis completely. Across two innings, India dominated and thus kept the pressure on NZ from the word go. Be it the batting partnerships or Kuldeep Yadav taking four wickets in a game; the men in blue had the last laugh on Saturday.
India takes 2-0 lead in the ODIs
Virat Kohli won the toss, and the visitors batted first in the second match. The pair of Dhawan and Rohit made sure India doesn’t face any hiccups later in the innings. Setting up a base for the batsmen to follow, both added 154 for the first wicket. Though neither of them could reach the three-digit mark, they crossed the legendary pair of Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag for most century stands in the ODIs for India.
However, the batting line-up didn’t lose the plot after their dismissals. Captain Virat Kohli and Ambati Rayudu scored 43 and 47, respectively. MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav later added 53 runs for the fifth wicket to see India post 324 for four in 50 overs.
The chase didn’t start well for the New Zealand batsmen. Bhuvneshwar Kumar got Martin Guptill on 15 before Shami broke Kane Williamson’s stumps on 20. No partnership could flourish later on, as the spinners got introduced to the attack. As Chahal bagged two and Jadhav picked one, Kuldeep Yadav collected four wickets. Though a small partnership of 58 runs between Lockie Ferguson, and Doug Bracewell delayed India’s win, the bowlers found their mojo back in the end. India won the game by 90 runs.
