Shubman Gill was knocking hard at the selection doors with his continuous impressive show in the domestic circuit. The 19-year old prodigy batsman was finally rewarded for his good show as he received his maiden call-up to the Indian ODI squad. Gill along with all-rounder Vijay Shankar were the latest additions to the squad after Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul were suspended.

Meanwhile, Gill has been in fine form in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. The talented batsman scored a fine double hundred for Punjab recently as he scored a fine 268 and it was a matter of time that he was to receive his call in the Indian squad.

Gill is an exciting young talent.

Gill also impressed with his skills in the Indian Premier League 2018. The right-hander scored 203 runs in 11 innings while averaging 33.83. Gill also scored a fifty for two-times champions Kolkata Knight Riders.

Subsequently, the writing was on the wall as Gill was making the right noises in the domestic circuit. In fact, the talented young batsman was the star of the show in the Under-19 World Cup triumph for India. Shubman Gill scored 364 runs in Under-19 World Cup. The right-hander also scored a fine century in the semi-final contest against Pakistan. Thus, Gill was the Player of the series.

Shubman Gill has shown the right promise to be the future of Indian cricket. Hence, the right-hander will like to prove his mettle at the big stage if he gets a chance in the playing XI. Meanwhile, Gill will join the squad for the series against New Zealand

Meanwhile, Australia won the first ODI of the three-match series by 34 runs. However, India will like to stay afloat in the series by winning the second match. The second ODI will take place at Adelaide Oval on January 15.
