Throughout his illustrious career, Virat Kohli has broken various records. The skipper of the Indian Cricket team is closing in on yet another milestone, as he looks to surpass, former Indian captain MS Dhoni’s record of highest runs scored as skipper in T20 internationals.
Dhoni, who helped India to their maiden T20 World Cup title in 2007, has been on a sabbatical from international cricket ever since the 2019 ODI World Cup.
In the meantime, Virat’s team India have won four consecutive T20 series, breaking records left, right and centre.
India recently defeated New Zealand in the second T20 of the five-match series to take a 2-0 lead. The third T20 is scheduled to be played in Hamilton on Wednesday, where the Men in Blue can clinch the series with a win.
However, Kohli will have his sights set on yet another personal milestone.

Virat Kohli 25 runs away from breaking MS Dhoni’s record:
In the third T20 at Seddon Park, Virat needs to score just 25 runs, to overtake Dhoni as the highest run-getter as captain in T20 Internationals. Kohli is in fourth place on this impressive list, behind Dhoni who currently has 1,112 runs as skipper.
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is ahead of Dhoni in second place with 1,148 runs, while Faf du Plessis leads the charts with 1,273 runs.
And that’s not all, as Virat can also become the player with most fifty-plus scores in T20Is, as he is currently tied with du Plessis and Williamson who scored eight each.
Moreover, the list of likely records does not end here for Virat, as he can become only the second batsman ever to hit 50 sixes as captain T20Is. Kohli needs seven more big hits to join Eoin Morgan in that illustrious club.

Speaking after the second T20, the Indian skipper lauded his team’s bowling credentials.
He said, “Another good performance today, especially with the ball. Bowling first was India’s strength. We demanded the bowlers stood up and took control of what we wanted to do out there, and our line and lengths… was a very good feature.”
After two comprehensive wins, India will look to wrap up matters in Hamilton on Wednesday. It’s a do-or-die match for New Zealand, so expect a classic encounter between these two sides.
