India’s young all-rounder Shivam Dube has grabbed the headlines for the wrong cause this time. He has credited an unwanted record to his name that any cricketer wouldn’t want to. Dube has now become the player to bowl the second most expensive over of T20I cricket. The incident took place in the fifth T20I of the ongoing India-New Zealand series when Tim Seifert and Ross Taylor smashed Dube for 34 runs in an over.

With this, Dubey has surpassed South Africa’s Wayne Parnell, who gave away 32 runs in an over in a game against England in 2012. Dube has replaced injured Hardik Pandya in the Indian side for a long time now. But the lack of international experience has cost him and Team India a lot.

Meanwhile, Hardik has been ruled out of the New Zealand Test series as he has not been able to be back to full fitness after the injury that he suffered in the lower back during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

Shivam Dube Grabs Unwanted Record in T20I:

Pandya’s injury is now proving to be a costly affair for India. His replacement, Dube has now become the cricketer who has bowled the second-most expensive over of T20I cricket. Stuart Broad tops the list with 36 runs in an over when Yuvraj Singh thrashed him for six sixes in an over in the ICC World T20 in 2007.

Moreover, Parnell is third on the list with 32 runs in an over against England in 2012. He’s followed by Afghanistan’s Izatullah Dawlatzai who went for 32 runs in an over against England in 2012.

Furthermore, Dube came to bowl at a crucial time for India. India are aiming for a 5-0 clean sweep in New Zealand against the Kiwis.

Batting first, India set a target 164 runs for the Kiwis to change. New Zealand got themself into a tight position by losing three wickets early on. Rohit Sharma’s injury in the first innings meant that KL Rahul would lead the Indian side during the chase as Virat Kohli was also rested before the game.

Rahul gave Dube the 10th over of the game and New Zealand targetted him straightaway. Tim Seifert and Ross Taylor bashed Dube for 34 runs in the over. They hit him all around the park and hit him for four sixes and two fours in the over.

Apart from him, they took a single and Dube also bowled a no-ball. Now, India have a game in hand after doing their best to eye Kiwis whitewash.
