Alex Carey has cemented his position as Australia’s number one keeper-batsman in ODI cricket. However, his spot in the T20Is remains under scrutiny, mainly due to Matthew Wade’s recent performances in the shortest format. Carey, who will enter the IPL 2021 auction with a base price of INR 1.5 crores, faced a release from the Delhi Capitals.

Carey, who fetched INR 2.4 crores from the Delhi Capitals, got only three opportunities with the Capitals. In three matches, the left-handed batsman managed 32 runs with a strike rate of 110.34 while taking a couple of catches behind the stumps. Carey filled in for the injured Rishabh Pant, who the team management saw as the first-choice gloveman for them.

The Adelaide Strikers might have been eliminated from the tournament in the knockout stage, but their keeper Alex Carey had a successful campaign. With 425 runs in 13 matches at 32.69 alongside one century and two fifties, the South Australian was the second-highest run-getter for the Strikers, behind Jake Weatherald’s 433. Hence, the 29-year old could benefit from a flourishing BBL edition in the IPL 2021 auction.
