IPL 2021 Auction: Tom Curran Sold To Delhi Capitals For INR 5.25 Crores

England right-arm seamer Tom Curran was perhaps a tad fortunate to get a bid from a franchise in IPL 2021 auction, considering his performances in the 2020 edition. Tom Curran, who was part of Rajasthan Royals in 2020, made his first IPL appearance with Kolkata Knight Riders and had a promising outing. Curran played five matches and took six wickets at 19.67; however, his economy rate was 11.61. Therefore, the two-time champions released him.

Ahead of the 2020 edition, Rajasthan Royals decided to secure his services. The 25-year old went on to play five games but snare only three wickets at an awful average of 69. Curran’s economy rate was also 11.45 and the arrival of Ben Stokes meant that the speedster had to make way for his teammate. Nevertheless, the South African-born enjoyed a decent season with the bat, managing 83 runs with one fifty while keeping a strike rate of 133.87.

Delhi Capitals secure Tom Curran’s services in IPL 2021 auction:

Delhi Capitals, who earlier secured Steve Smith and Umesh Yadav, bought Tom Curran for INR 5.25 crores. The 25-year old joins Delhi Capitals’ fast-bowling unit that has Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Chris Woakes, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav. Since there is growing uncertainty about Rabada and Norjte’s availability due to their international commitments, Curran could be a handy edition. Curran’s variations that include plenty of slower deliveries could be deadly on slower pitches.
