Suryakumar Yadav has been scoring runs at will in the last couple of years. After starring for the Mumbai Indians in their title win in IPL 2020, Suryakumar Yadav continued his run-scoring spree ahead of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The right-handed batsman, who has surprisingly not yet played for India, smacked 120 off only 47 balls in a practice match between Team B and Team D.

Suryakumar Yadav’s performance in IPL 2020 was surprisingly seen as not enough not to earn a place in India’s T20 squad. The 30-year old, who batted at number three for the five-time champions, crafted several innings of substance and ended up 480 runs in 16 matches at 40 alongside a strike rate of 145.02. The right-handed batsman smacked four fifties in the process; hence, he deserved an opportunity.

But Yadav proved that not playing for India is their loss as he mustered 120 off only 47 balls. Yadav, who led Team B, played a captain’s knock and hit ten fours and nine sixes at a strike rate of 255.32 to put his team on the driver’s seat. The Mumbai batsman was particularly relentless against left-arm paceman Arjun Tendulkar, who leaked 21 runs in the 13th over of the game.

Team B rode on Suryakumar Yadav’s breezy innings and posted a daunting total of 213 on the board against Team D (captained by Yashasvi Jaiswal) by losing five wickets in 20 overs. As for Arjun Tendulkar, he bowled well enough except for the over when he went for 21 runs. Tendulkar picked the wicket of Siddharth Akre in the 19th over of the innings, ending with figures of 1/33 in four overs. Nevertheless, Yadav’s whirlwind innings remains the highlight and his form bodes well for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which begins on the 10th of January.
