Indian opening batsman Rohit Sharma might have reached Australia by completing the mandatory rehabilitation formalities to make himself available for the last two Tests. The swashbuckling opening batsman managed to recover from the hamstring injury that ruled him out of the initial part of India’s Australia tour. Yet, Rohit Sharma has not been able to train as of now and is currently placed in quarantine for 14 days within a two-bedroom apartment in Sydney.

Rohit Sharma’s injury ahead of a gruelling Australian tour sparked a reasonably massive controversy as the BCCI remained unclear about its magnitude. The experts also blamed the 33-year old, who played in the final stages of IPL 2020 carrying an injury that further aggravated by the time the Indian team was to depart for Australia. He spent a considerable amount of time at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore recovering from the injuries and finetuning himself.

Rohit would be expected to play as soon as the Indian management declares him fit. The 33-yeard old would be not only an invaluable addition on the batting front but also the leadership one, considering Virat Kohli’s unavailability. When fit, Rohit will most likely open the innings for the tourists. India currently trails the four-match series after the first Test as they lost it by eight wickets. In the process, they also recorded their lowest Test total of 36.

Mental conditioning coach Partha Varanashi underlined that Rohit Sharma has to spend two weeks in isolation before playing the third Test. The quarantine period has hurt his chances of training and put pressure on him of performing since he is a top-notch player. Hence, Partha stressed on the fact that mental conditioning is as essential as the physical conditioning.

He has all this 2 weeks of quarantine, preparing himself going into that moment of truth (the 3rd Test), Then again, everyone else is going out training and he is not doing that and plus he has that pressure of performing because he is an important batsman. So, all of this comes into play when he has to perform, so mental conditioning is very important for athletes. Physical conditioning is focused on a lot but mental conditioning gets let up,” Partha told Sports Today.
