Young Lungi Ngidi has had a whirlwind few days since his impressive Test debut against India at Centurion.
Ngidi’s six-for in the second innings helped Proteas to warp up the series with one match still to play. Since, his man-of-the-match effort, he has been the topic of discussion among cricket fans all over the world.
The 21-year-old Ngidi admitted that the response after brilliant effort has been overwhelming.
“It’s been amazing. It’s not something I’m not used to it so overwhelmed me a bit,” Ngidi said on a live show.
“I’m still trying to respond to everyone but it was just overwhelming at the time and it’s a very special moment. Even the press has been interviewing my parents, which hasn’t happened,” Ngidi was delighted while talking.
Ngidi made his T20I debut against Sri Lanka last year but admits that Centurion Test was something his family will hold dear.
“They were really happy. My mom was crying, she loves to pray so before the game she prayed to me on the phone. It was just a very beautiful moment for my family, just to hear our surname being announced like that,” Ngidi added.
Lungi Ngidi will be keen to improve his star-studded performance in the third Test match. The final Test is slated to start on Wednesday, January 24 at Johannesburg.
