India bounced back from the defeat against Sri Lanka in style, dismantling Bangladesh by six wickets to open their account in Nidahas Trophy. It was a clinical performance from the Rohit Sharma-led side.

Rohit Sharma’s decision to bowl first was totally justified by the bowlers as Bangladesh could manage only 139 for 8. Bangladesh lost their openers Soumya Sarkar (14) and Tamim Iqbal (15) cheaply. However, they were in a promising position after racing away to 44 at the end of the powerplay. But they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and could only post a modest total.

Liton Das top-scored for them, scoring while Sabbir Rahman (30) was the only other batsman to cross the 20-run mark. For India, Jaydev Unadkat was the most successful bowler, finishing up with 3 for 38.

In reply, India were off to a blistering start as Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan collected 18 off the first two overs. However, Bangladesh clawed their way back in the game by taking two quick wickets. Mustafizur Rahman dismissed Rohit Sharma for 17 before Rubel Hossain accounted for Rishabh Pant to reduce India from 28 for 0 to 40 for 2.

However, Shikhar Dhawan’s second consecutive fifty and vital contribution from Suresh Raina (28) and Manish Pandey (27*) helped India reach home with more than an over remaining.

With the game now done and dusted, here are all the numbers from the second game of the tri-series:

1. This was the first time, Shikhar Dhawan scored back-to-back fifties in T20s. It was also his sixth half-century in the shortest format of the game.

2.  Four out of Dhawan’s six fifty-plus scores have come in his last 8 innings.

3. Suresh Raina became the third Indian after Yuvraj Singh (74) and Rohit Sharma (69) to reach 50-sixes mark in international cricket. The southpaw has so far scored 50 sixes in 70 T20Is.

4. Vijay Shankar won his maiden Man of the Match in only his second T20I.

5. Bangladesh’s wretched run in T20Is continued with another defeat. They have now won only one game in their last 13 T20Is. Their last win in T20Is came in April 2017 against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

6. The win was India’s sixth consecutive win against Bangladesh in T20Is.

7. Rohit Sharma averages just 12.67 in six T20I innings since that 118 (joint-fastest hundred) he scored against Sri Lanka in Indore.

8. India conceded 15 extras during the game which is the most they conceded in a T20I against Bangladesh.

9. Jaydev Unadkat conceded 38 runs in his four overs which is the most for an Indian bowler against Bangladesh in T20Is. The record was previously held by Hardik Pandya who had conceded 35 in the Asia Cup final in 2016.

10. Bangladesh have now lost 49 T20I games which is the joint most by any team. New Zealand and Sri Lanka are the other two teams who have lost 49 T20I matches.

11. Shikhar Dhawan averages a staggering 57.60 in T20Is in 2018. He has scored 288 runs in 5 innings. He also has a strike-rate of 155.67 this year.
