Nishant Shekhawat Arrested For Alleged Match-Fixing In Karnataka Premier League

The Crime Branch on Tuesday arrested Bengaluru Blaster’s batsman Nishant Shekhawat for his alleged involvement in match-fixing in the 2018 edition of the Karnataka Premier League (KPL). Meanwhile, he is the second cricketer after M Vishwanathan, the police have held in relation to this case.
The 29-year-old Shekhawat came under the scanner following the arrest of the bowling coach of the Bengaluru Blasters team Vinu Prasad and a batsman M Vishwanathan, on charges of cheating and conspiracy. Vishwanathan allegedly received Rs five lakh for batting slowly.
As per the reports, the police revealed that Nishant Shekhawat was in touch with the bookies. Moreover, he only contacted Bengaluru’s bowling coach to fix players in the 2018 edition of KPL.

“Shekhawat was in touch with bookies and contacted Vinu Prasad to fix players,” the police said.
Nishant Shekhawat is accused of helping Vinu Prasad lure M Vishwanathan into alleged fixing during the 18th game of the KPL 2018 season. He did this on behalf of a Chandigarh bookie identified as Manoj Kumar alias Monty.

The police have also questioned Arvind Venkatesh Reddy, a real estate and hospitality businessman, who is the owner of the Ballari Tuskers KPL team, since 2017.
