Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) got off to a disastrous start to their innings against Kings XI Punjab as they lost two back-to-back wickets in the form of in-form Rahul Tripathi and Nitish Rana.
While Tripathi was eventually dismissed after a painstaking 10-ball 4 after he was knocked over by Mohammed Shami when the right-hander was trying to heave him on the on-side.
Following Tripathi’s dismissal, the onus was on the duo of Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana to help KKR make use of the powerplay but a horrible mix-up between the duo led to the ultimate demise of Rana.
It all happened in the 4th over after Shubmam Gill had clipped Arshdeep Singh towards short fine-leg. Rana, who was keen for a single, ran towards Gill’s end.
Gill, however, wasn’t interested, and by the time he sent the southpaw, it was too late as Nicholas Pooran completed an easy run-out at the non-striker end.
Meanwhile, KKR has struggled to get going on a slow Abu Dhabi surface thus far, having registered the second-lowest score of the powerplay- 2-25- this season.
Eoin Morgan, however, has played some brilliant strokes thus far and the onus will be on him and Gill to lay the platform to allow the likes of Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik to unleash at the backend.
