Unfortunately, the veteran domestic Indian off-spinning all-rounder Jalaj Saxena is feeling hard done by the selectors. Many are sure that he won’t be the last cricketer to feel so, but despite consistent performances in the domestic circuit, Saxena has been snubbed by the selectors for selection over the past few years.

However, he has received awards from the Board of Control for Cricket in India on a regular basis for his performances in the domestic circuit.

Furthermore, he hasn’t yet received even an India A call-up.

“You are giving an award but there is no reward. If I don’t get an answer from the BCCI about why I haven’t got even an India A call in the last four years, then what’s the point of giving me awards for the last four years. This only seems more like an insult to me then. I’m depressed,” Indian Express quoted Saxena as saying.

Saxena is feeling the agony and with his age already 31, his dream of representing the national team might never be realized.

Originally, hailing from Madhya Pradesh, Saxena finished as the highest wicket-taker with 49 scalps behind his name in the Ranji Trophy. He shifted his base to Kerala and proved to a strong inclusion for the stateside.

For his impressive performances, Saxena is in line to win the Madhavrao Scindia Award for the 2017-18 season.

Saxena is expected to receive the award in the BCCI Awards function slated to be held in Bengaluru next week. The off-spinner is also in line to bag the Lala Amarnath Award for the best all-rounder in Ranji Trophy.

If he receives the award it will be the third time in the last four years. Despite his impressive showing, the national selectors have just shut the door on Saxena of taking his career to the next level.

Saxena is yet to feature in an Irani Trophy match and has not been picked for India A.

“Everyone asks me the BCCI has been giving you an award every year for the last four years but you still don’t seem good enough to play at a higher level. I feel humiliated,” says Saxena.

Saxena further recalled calling one of the selectors after his snub from the Irani Trophy despite stupendous performances.

However, his call was not received by the unnamed selector. Jalaj Saxena feels that it was the lowest point in his career.

“Maybe he didn’t have my number. I’m the highest wicket-taker and have been performing consistently for past many years now. I just wanted to know the reason for not being picked for India A and Irani Trophy,” he added.
