It is never easy for a particular player to break into the Indian national team. Thus, a player must make the most of early opportunities to seal his place in the national fold.

Consequently, a player must perform consistently after getting a call into the senior team. As the competition is tough, players who fail to create a good first impression are overlooked by the selectors.

Therefore, there are a plethora of players who made the cut into the Indian team but were not able to hold on to their place for a long time.

Let’s take a look at the top five forgotten Indian Players.

Debashish Mohanty:

Fast bowler Debashish Mohanty impressed with his ability to swing the ball. However, the Orissa-born medium pacer didn’t have pace under his armoury.

The right-arm fast bowler played 45 One-day International games and two Tests. Mohanty had an open chested action and had the skills to swing the ball both ways. The medium pacer took 57 wickets in the 50-overs form.

Aavishkar Salvi wanted to be next Glenn McGrath of the cricketing world. However, the right-arm pacer could not be as consistent as the legendary Australian fast bowler was during his heydays.

Salvi played only four matches for the Men in Blue as he failed to impress in his upcoming matches.

The Mumbai-based bowler could not make it to the Test squad as well. Furthermore, Salvi played seven IPL matches.

They say, ‘the first Impression can last a lifetime’. Amay Khurasiya scored a half-century on his debut but he failed to leave a mark in the International form.

The southpaw batsman played 12 matches for the Indian team. The Madhya Pradesh-bound batsman scored only 149 runs in the 11 innings he played. Thus, he was shown the exit door from the Indian team.

The left-hander is currently running a cricket academy to nurse the raw talent.

Tinu Yohannan:

Pacer Tinu Yohannan became the first player from Kerala to represent India at the International arena.

However, the lanky fast bowler faded away as his performance was not up to the mark.

The speedster played three matches in Test cricket for the Indian team whereas he played the same number of matches in ODI form.

Struggling then, Yohannan scalped five wickets each in traditional two forms of the game.

Dinesh Mongia:

Wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Mongia had a longer run than the aforementioned players.

Mongia played a memorable knock of unbeaten 159 against Zimbabwe. Southpaw batsman bagged the Man of the Series award in the five-match series.

The left-hander Mongia was also part of the Natwest Trophy triumph in 2002 before being listed in the forgotten players.

Concluding, Mongia scored 1,230 runs in the 51 innings he played for the Men in Blue.
