Virat Kohli breaks his silence on his possible return to Test cricket, taking and u-turn from the retirement. Virat announced his retirement from Test cricket days before India's tour to England for the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy.

In the Global Premier of the One8, the star batter was asked about whether there is any possibility of seeing him again in the Whites. The batter has made a straight response without creating any suspense.

Will Virat Kohli reconsider his Test retirement?

Danish Sait, the host of the show, asked Virat Kohli, “The Red shoe has been priced at Rs 9230 (Virat’s Test runs), so would you want to return to Test cricket (and add more runs) to make the shoe make more money?”

In reply, the former India captain stated that he has no wish to make a comeback in the format. “Na na, I would rather undersell…am done with it (Test cricket),” he responded.

Virat Kohli retired from the T20Is right after winning the T20 World Cup 2024, and a year later, he signed off from the Tests, which left him active only in the ODI format.

Kohli is dealing with a hamstring injury

Currently, he is not a part of the Indian cricket team because of a hamstring injury he picked up during the final of the IPL 2026 season while batting for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the run chase against the Gujarat Titans.

The 37-year-old, showing the same intensity and eagerness to win a match, played an unbeaten 75-run knock to defend the title, which they earned in the 2025 season of the league. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named Virat Kohli for the recently concluded ODI series against Afghanistan. But he ruled himself out of the bilateral contest because of the hamstring injury.

On Sunday (June 21), the board announced the squad for the ODI series against England, where they have placed the Delhi-born, though his participation in the league is subject to his fitness ahead of the away series.

Kohli's batting stats in brief across the formats for India

Before walking away from the longest format of the game, the batter scored 9,230 runs in 123 matches and 210 innings with a batting average of 46.85. He decorated his Test stats with thirty centuries and 31 half-centuries.

Under his leadership and the coaching of Ravi Shastri, the Indian cricket team reached new heights in the format, especially on the overseas tours.

In the T20Is, the right-handed batter claimed 4,188 runs in 125 matches and 117 innings for an average of 48.69 and a strike rate of 137.04. During his T20I stint, he registered one century and thirty-eight 50s.

He has still kept active himself in the ODIs, and fans are expecting to see the batting maestro in action with the Indian cricket team again, during the series against England. So far, in 299 innings, Virat Kohli has claimed 14,797 runs, supported by 54 centuries and 77 half-centuries, for an average of 58.71.
