Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar recently picked his all-time India-Pakistan combined Test XI and as expected it was a star-studded side. Unfortunately, not a single current Indian player managed to make it to the team. There were also some notable omissions like Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid and Inzamam-ul-Haq in the team. He revealed his team during an interaction with former Pakistan batsman Ramiz Raza on Sony Ten show Pit Stop.
Sunil Gavaskar started by picking the legendary Hanif Mohammad and Virender Sehwag as the openers of the side. Incidentally, both Hanif and Sehwag are the first triple-centurion in Tests for their respective countries. Sehwag, in fact, went on to score another triple century in his illustrious Test career and is regarded as one of the most destructive openers of all time.
For the crucial number three spot, Sunil Gavaskar picked Pakistan’s Zaheer Abbas who is fondly called the ‘Asian Don Bradman’. Abbas was followed by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar who is the most decorated batsman in the history of Test cricket. Tendulkar has scored more runs and hit more centuries than any other player in Tests as well as in ODIs.
At number five, Gavaskar picked his former teammate Gundappa Viswanath before naming two allrounders in the team in the form of Kapil Dev and Imran Khan. As far as the wicketkeeper was concerned, the batting legend went for former India wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani.
In the bowling department, Sunil Gavaskar did not pick any Indian. Wasim Akram, and Waqar Younis were the two specialist pacers in the side while Abdul Qadir was the sole spinner.
