Not Just India, Mike Hesson Also Running For Pakistan, Bangladesh Coaching Job

Mike Hesson looks set to resume coaching an international team soon as he has applied for the head coach positions of as many as three international teams. Hesson earlier applied for the post of head coach of the Indian cricket team, after BCCI advertised for the post. He has also thrown his hat in the ring to be next Bangladesh’s and Pakistan’s coach.

Starting from India, Hessson is one of the strongest candidates for the job but it is highly unlikely that the board will remove Ravi Shastri from the job. However, changes can be made to his coaching staff. Since Shastri and other coaches were offered contracts for two years, it is a routine procedure that has to be followed.

Bangladesh are looking for a coach as they sacked Steve Rhodes following team’s poor run at World Cup 2019. Rhodes’ contract was to run till T20 World Cup that takes place next year but BCB has started the procedure to find a new coach.

As per a report in ESPNcricinfo, Paul Farbrace, Grant Flower, Russell Domingo and Chandika Hathurusingha are other coaches who have been shortlisted by the board. Domingo appeared for an interview yesterday and impressed the board.

Apart from India and Bangladesh, Hesson also stands a chance to become Pakistan’s coach. PCB did not renew Mickey Arthur’s contract following World Cup and also removed other members of his coaching staff. Hesson has applied for Pakistan’s top job as well and it remains to be seen if is appointed as Pakistan’s coach.

Hesson took over as the coach of New Zealand in 2012, coaching them to their maiden World Cup final in 2015. In 2018, he surprisingly stepped down from the job. Later, he was appointed as head coach of IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab but he parted ways with the franchise earlier today. The R Ashwin-led side could not qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2019.

The Kiwi coach is not associated with any team in the coach’s capacity for now and looks set to make a comeback in the international arena soon.
