The visiting side India have taken the 1-0 lead in the five-match T20I series against the hosts New Zealand after winning the first game of this series at Eden Park in Auckland.

After losing the toss, the hosts managed to score 203 for five (20 overs) in the first innings. The visitors successfully reached the target in 19 overs after losing only four wickets.

Teams’ stats

New Zealand:

i) The hosts New Zealand scored 203 for fice in 20 overs. It was their third-highest T20I total against India. Their top two records in this list are 219 for six (at Wellington on 6th February 2019) and 212 for four (at Hamilton on 10th February 2019).

ii) A total of three New Zealand batsmen scored 50-plus runs in the first innings. It was the first time when more than two Kiwis batsmen scored 50-plus runs in the same T20I innings.

India:

i) The visitors India successfully chased down the 204 runs target in 19 overs (204/4). It is the highest successful T20I chase for India outside their home soil. Their previous record was successfully chasing 199 runs target (201/3 in 18.4 overs) against the hosts England (at Bristol on 8th July 2008).

Players’ stats

New Zealand:

i) Colin Munro (1,004 runs) completed 1,000 T20I runs as an opening batsman. He became the third New Zealand batsman to score 1,000-plus T20I runs as an opener.

The first two in this impressive list are Martin Guptill (2,139 runs) and Brendon McCullum (1,259 runs).

Munro also became the fastest New Zealand batsman to complete 1,000 T20I runs as an opener after reaching this milestone in just 29 T20I innings. Guptill and McCullum took 34 and 35 T20I innings respectively to achieve this feat.

ii) Colin Munro has scored 307 T20I runs against India. He becomes the most T20I run-scorer for New Zealand against India.

The previous record-holder in this list was Brendon McCullum, who scored 261 T20I runs against India.

iii) New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson scored 51 runs. It was the first time in T20I cricket when a New Zealand captain scored 50-plus runs against India. The previous record was 34 runs by Williamson at Wellington on 6th February 2019.

iv) Playing his 40th T20I match, the left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner completed his 50 T20I wickets. He became the third New Zealand bowler but fastest Kiwi bowler to complete 50 T20I wickets.

Pacer Tim Southee (75 wickets) and the former off-spinner Nathan McCullum (58 wickets) completed their 50 T20I wickets in 42 and 53 matches respectively.

India:

i) Virat Kohli has scored 999 T20I runs at the away venues. He became the most T20I run-scorer at the away venues (only home of opposition).

During this match, Kohli surpassed the previous record-holder Mohammad Hafeez (Pakistan) who has scored 955 T20I runs at the away venues.

ii) Virat Kohli has scored 242 T20I runs against New Zealand. Surpassing MS Dhoni (223 runs), Virat Kohli becomes the most T20I run-getter for India against New Zealand.
