Ageless MS Dhoni proved his worth once again on Tuesday this week with a scintillating batting display in the second ODI against Australia. The former India skipper had a 2018 to forget where he faced criticism from every quarter for his indifferent displays with the bat. But the ongoing year has started on a promising note for him.
Dhoni started 2019 on a bitter-sweet note, scoring a fifty in the first ODI against Australia. However, he faced criticism for consuming as many as 96 deliveries as India lost the game by 34 runs. But in just the following game, he made a big mark with both wicketkeeping gloves as well as the bat.
He first impressed with the wicketkeeping gloves before making a winning contribution with the bat. The 37-year old scored an unbeaten fifty to take India home.. He came to the crease when India were in a precarious position despite skipper Virat Kohli looking in ominous form at the other end. India needed 139 off 118 deliveries when Dhoni joined Kohli at the crease and there were apprehensions that the World Cup-winning skipper’s knack of using too many deliveries early on can hurt India.
However, Dhoni was in his elements and mastered the chase by scoring 55 off 54 balls. He also hit a six on the first ball of the last over when India needed seven before taking a single to complete the win. The innings was a tight slap on the critics who have not squandered a single chance to take a shot at Dhoni.
Ever since his knock, Dhoni has been receiving praise from all over. And his wife Sakshi has also gone gaga over him. In fact, Sakshi looked very excited after her husband’s heroics in Adelaide. In order to show her excitement, she took to Instagram, posting a series of photos on her story.
In one of the stories, Dhoni was seen shaking hands with Australian players after the match was over. One of the pictures had a record table which showed that the veteran batsman had the highest average in successful run-chases. She also wished everyone a happy Makar Sankranti and Army Day.
