Pakistan pacer Ihsanullah injured Najibullah Zadran, and an Afghanistan batter left the field during the third T20I of the three-match series at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah on Monday, March 27. Ihsanullah bowled well in the final match and helped the Men in Green beat Afghanistan by 66 runs to avoid the whitewash.

Earlier, the Shabad Khan-led team suffered two losses in the first two matches of the series due to their poor performances with the bat. Pakistan’s batters performed well in the last match and helped the team reach a mammoth total of 182 runs. In reply, the Afghan team were bowled out for just 116 runs in 18.4 overs.

The incident took place in the 11th over of Afghanistan’s innings when Zadran became the victim of a fiery bouncer from Ihsanullah. Zardan came into the crease after Mohammad Nabi’s wicket on the second delivery of the over. Najibullah was surprised by a sharp bouncer from Ihsanullah that hit him on the chin, which led to him bleeding.

Najibullah faced only one ball in the innings, which went straight past his bat and his gloves to hit onto the grills of his helmet. The batter left the crease as he retired hurt and was replaced by Azmatullah Omarzai as a concussion substitute. Omarzai came to the crease after the fall of the ninth wicket and scored 21 runs off 20 deliveries before being dismissed by Zaman Khan.

Najibullah was fortunate that the ball struck his glove first, slowing the pace of the delivery before hitting his helmet. Pakistan wicketkeeper Mohammad Haris rushed to Najibullah’s aid and assisted him in removing the helmet. Zadran was bleeding down his neck from his lower jaw and had to leave the field immediately. Even the support staff in the stands were stunned with incredulity as replays showed how dangerous the ball was.
